Horse racing tips: Templegate’s 13-2 NAP is Irish raider miles ahead of handicapper backed to win Welsh Grand National

TEMPLEGATE tackles Tuesday’s racing confident of banging in a fair few winners.

Read on for our man’s tips and back a horse by clicking their odds below.

THE BIG DOG (2.50 Chepstow, nap)

He comes here in fine form after winning the tough Troytown Chase at Navan last time.

Despite having top weight, he looks ahead of the handicapper and has lots of staying power for this punishing trip.

BOOTHILL (1.20 Kempton, nb)

He won his first two chase runs before pitched in against Jonbon for the grade 1 Henry VIII at Sandown last time.

He was no match for that superstar but accounted for the rest of the field nicely. He relishes this 2m trip and cut in the ground is right up his street. This is just his fourth spin over fences so he should be capable of a fair bit better.

SCRIPTWRITER (1.40 Chepstow, treble)

He couldn’t have been more impressive when winning a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last time ahead of Perseus Way who has another crack at him today.

Milton Harris’s youngster travelled smoothly and was pulling away from his rivals up the hill.

Templegate’s TV verdicts

KEMPTON

12.45

HIM MALAYA travelled nicely on his hurdles debut at Newton Abbot before some very novicey mistakes put paid to his chances.

He still wasn’t beaten far in third and should show lots of improvement for Paul Nicholls who has a decent record in this race.

Artistic Choice is a maiden on the Flat but kicked off his jumping career with a comfortable win at Catterick.

That means he has to give 5lb away but he should have more to offer.

Charles St went own in a head-bobber on his first spin over timber at Warwick last month.

He lugged to the right there, which cost him the race, and the cheekpieces going on today should help on that score.

Highland Frolic was well backed before going down to a 17-length beating on hurdles debut at Wetherby.

He must have been showing something at home and has had a wind op since.

1.20

BOOTHILL won his first two chase runs before pitched in against Jonbon for the grade 1 Henry VIII at Sandown last time.

He was no match for that superstar but accounted for the rest of the field nicely. He relishes this 2m trip and cut in the ground is right up his street.

This is just his fourth spin over fences so he should be capable of a fair bit better.

Aucunrisque won the high-class Dovecote over hurdles here in February and has taken well to these bigger obstacles.

He jumped sweetly when a close-up second at Newbury last time and should get his own way out in front. He can go close again.

Glory And Fortune held his own in Grade 1 company over timber and was thrown into a Cheltenham Grade 2 for his return to chasing 45 days ago.

He was booked for at least a place before unseating at the second-last so can’t be dismissed.

Lac De Constance had 20 lengths in hand when winning a minor contest on chase debut here last month.

This is a lot tougher but there’s clearly some talent there.

1.55

GLIMPSE OF GALA can turn Ascot form around with Coquelicot off a better weight with these softer conditions right up her street.

She stayed on strongly up the run-in last time but the winner had flown on the quicker ground.

She is 10lb better off at the weights today and that can make the difference.

Coquelicot is still very much respected given she scored again after Ascot at Sandown last time.

But a bigger threat could be Get A Tonic who ended last season winning a decent handicap at Ayr before returning with a close second at Haydock in November.

She’s creeping up the weights but stays three miles strongly and won’t mind the give in the ground.

I Spy A Diva has been in cracking form at lower levels and pulled out all the stops to win by a neck at Taunton.

This is tougher but she’s only five so should have more to offer.

Whitehotchillifilli and Terresita were both beaten by Coquelicot last time and have a bit to find.

2.30

EDWARDSTONE took his form to new heights when hammering a good field to win the Tingle Creek at Sandown last time.

That proved he retains all the ability that saw him win the Arkle last season and established Alan King’s star as the No1 British hope for the Champion Chase in March.

He won the Wayward Lad on this card 12 months ago so we know he likes this course and distance.

The others need a major step forward to stop him scoring again.

Nube Negra is the obvious forecast pick after he came back to something like his best when winning the Grade 2 Schloer Chase at Cheltenham on comeback last month.

He doesn’t want the ground really soft so hopefully conditions will be just about suitable for him.

If Edwardstone runs anywhere near his best, the Skelton runner would need to improve again to score.

Funambule Sivola needed the run when last in the Tingle Creek after eight months off and another breathing operation.

He was a good second in the Arkle last year so deserves his place in the company.

More rain would bring mudlark Sizing Pottsie into the battle for third while Editeur Du Gite wasn’t disgraced at Cheltenham last time but is no more than a good handicapper.

3.09

FLEGMATIK has a good record at Kempton having won a couple of times here last time, including over this trip.

He was a close-up third in hot company at Ascot on return and should be fitter for the experience.

He finished a place ahead of Janika there and he’s had a helpful nudge down the weights.

He has stamina to prove but potentially looks a big price to hit the frame.

Remastered has been in fine form this season and followed a hurdles win with a cracking second in the Coral Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury last time.

It’s not certain that this shorter trip on a speed track will be ideal but he has lots of ability and is high on the shortlist.

Five Star Getaway ran on strongly to grab fifth in the Becher Chase at Aintree. If he can travel a bit closer to the pace, it would be no surprise to see him go close again.

Your Darling was impressive over 2m5f at Ascot latest.

It’s not certain he’ll see out this longer trip but he’d be a danger if he does.

Fontaine Collonges battled to score at Haydock and has more to offer over this sort of distance.

CHEPSTOW

1.05

ENZO D’AIRY came back from almost two years off to score well over course and distance earlier this month.

He went from the front there and had something left in the tank so a 6lb rise looks fair.

Fugitif was a good second at Cheltenham last month and the winner has scored again since.

He steps up from 2m here but shapes like a stayer and won’t mind some cut in the ground.

Broken Halo looked in need of the run when midfield at Aintree last time, coming back from a break.

This trip looks ideal and it would be no shock to see him run a lot better.

Golden Whisky won this race 12 months ago and is better than we saw at Wetherby last time when he was very rusty.

He’s a little lower in the weights than last year and has place claims.

Numitor went close off this handicap mark at Haydock in April and should be fitter after his comeback third at Newbury.

Red Rookie was last seen taking a fall in the Arkle. That was out of his league but he was in winning form at Hereford before that and should appreciate this step up in distance.

1.40

SCRIPTWRITER couldn’t have been more impressive when winning a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last time ahead of Perseus Way who has another crack at him today.

Milton Harris’s youngster travelled smoothly and was pulling away from his rivals up the hill.

He carries a penalty for that but has enough ability to cope with that.

Perseus Way looks a big threat again having sauntered to victory at Leicester since. He’ll improve plenty on just his third outing.

Comfort Zone comes over from Ireland having run well in a Fairyhouse Grade 3 for trainer Joseph O’Brien.

He made a late error there but should have learned from that.

Dixon Cove took Listed honours at Aintree for Paul Nicholls earlier this month. He travelled smoothly there and is a contender on this hike in class.

Spartan Army didn’t have a lot to beat when winning on hurdles debut at Wetherby but he did it nicely.

He’ll need to improve in this stronger race but has every chance of doing so.

2.10

FLEMENSTIDE can make a winning return. He did well in novice ranks last season and hasn’t been clobbered with lots of weight on this handicap debut.

Bobo Mac ran his best race for a long time when winning here last month and a repeat of that form would put him in the picture.

Green Book has had a wind op ahead of this comeback and was a solid fifth in the Group 1 Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival.

This is a fair drop in class from that and Venetia Williams should have him fit.

West To The Bridge is worth a look each-way now he’s dropped below his last winning mark.

2.50

THE BIG DOG comes here in fine form after winning the tough Troytown Chase at Navan last time.

Despite having top weight, he looks ahead of the handicapper and has lots of staying power for this punishing trip.

Quick Wave was impressive when winning the London National at Sandown last time. She has lots of stamina so some rain would help as softer ground is ideal.

The Big Breakaway is not the easiest of rides but ran well at Haydock last time and a repeat of that would put him right in the mix.

Ask Me Early came back from a break with a good third at Bangor and has plenty to build on.

The Galloping Bear has been laid out for this and was first past the post in the Haydock Grand National trial in February. He’s fit from a hurdles run.
