Horse racing tips: Templegate picks out monster 33-1 shot for the Royal Ascot opener

TEMPLEGATE is back and he has his eyes on both the weekend’s racing and Royal Ascot.

There’s some decent action at York this Saturday, but Templegate also has unearthed an enormous price for day one at Royal Ascot.

His selection is 33-1 and he thinks there’s plenty of reason for a dabble on the unexposed sort.

EAGLE READY TO FLY

Before all attention turns to Royal Ascot, there’s a decent card at York on Saturday with the Listed Grand Cup catching the eye (3.05).

It will be interesting to see how Israr gets on after his solid comeback at Newbury last time but I’ll go against the favourite with LONE EAGLE.

There is some 11-2 available about Ralph Beckett’s five-year-old who looked something close to his old self when second in the Ormonde at Chester last time.

The ground was testing there but he’s gone in quicker conditions before and wouldn’t have to improve much on that Roodee effort.

Unlike Israr who is going up in trip, we know he stays well and the price is big enough at this stage to have an interest.

BET: LONE EAGLE in the Grand Cup at York on Saturday at 11-2

WELLINGTON HAS BOOT FOR ROYAL ASCOT

One of Hong Kong’s finest sprinters can carry off the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next week.

WELLINGTON is the real deal with more than six million quid in his prizemoney pile thanks to a string of Group 1 wins at Sha Tin. The pick of his form has been over the six-furlong trip and has scored on fast and slow ground.

Unfortunately the 14-1 that was around last week has evaporated after reports of a flying gallop before he flew into the UK. But I’m still interested at 7-1 as I expect him to be a bit shorter on the day.

BET: WELLINGTON in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at 7-1

CASH IN ON QUEEN ANNE OUTSIDER

There are some classy types in the opening Group One of the meeting on Tuesday but there’s an outsider with a big chance of making the frame.

CASH is trading at 25-1 despite his decent comeback run behind Hukum in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown in May. That 1m2f trip stretched his stamina and dropping back to a mile can help.

He needs more improvement but, at that price, it’s worth a small dabble that he can break into the first three.

BET: CASH each-way in the Queen Anne Stakes at 25-1.
