In a group called Cleaning Tips and Tricks a desperate driver sent out the call for help – and it was quickly answered.
Within a few minutes, commenters had responded in droves advising them to use an everyday household essential to bust the grease.
All you need is some washing-up liquid, warm water and time.
Many social media users specifically recommended Dawn dish soap.
The brand is mainly available in the US but can be found on Amazon UK for £10.
Failing that, most washing up liquids are pretty similar in terms of chemical composition, so any of the more familiar brands will likely work too.
Supermarket own brand versions can be found online for as little as 55p.
One cleaning whizz advised: “Use Dawn dish-washing liquid and a scrub brush.
“Give the grease spots a good squirt of Dawn, and scrub it in a circular motion to get it down into the ridges of the surface.
“Then put more Dawn on it and let it sit for about an hour.
“Then scrub it again, and rinse it off with the garden hose.
“If the spot is still there, do it again.”
However, if the stain really won’t shift, they did have a backup plan.
The commenter added: “If it’s really stubborn, sprinkle baking soda onto the grease spot along with the Dawn and scrub some more.
“The grease will come off eventually.”
Baking soda, a favourite of Instagram cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, can be found for just 65p from Asda.
It comes after a car expert shared how a £1 kitchen staple can leave your motor looking good as new.
