His Home Team! Patrick Mahomes’ Sweetest Quotes About Raising His Kids

His favorite fans! Patrick Mahomes is an all-star for his team on the football field — and a champion for his family at home.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback got engaged to high school sweetheart Brittany Matthews in September 2020, proposing on the same day he received his Super Bowl LIV championship ring. Later that month, the couple announced that they had a baby on the way.

“Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding,” the then-pregnant soccer player wrote via Instagram alongside two photos of Mahomes cradling her stomach as she showed off an ultrasound image.

Mahomes’ younger brother, Jackson Mahomes, congratulated the pair on their next chapter. “I am so extremely happy for you guys & can’t wait to see what the future holds for y’all! You guys are going to be the BEST parents ever!!!” he gushed in the comments section.

Matthews gave birth to daughter Sterling in February 2021. The new parents initially kept the infant’s face hidden on social media, but they shared the first glimpse of their baby girl in June 2021.

“Obviously, at first, we wanted to keep stuff private and not have her out there,” Patrick explained during an interview with Today the following month. “As we started doing different things and she started getting a little bit older, being out and about, it almost became, like, a burden to try to hide her at all times when we do stuff. This coming [NFL] season, we want her to be at the games and not have to worry about hiding her the entire time.”

He added: “We still want to keep some stuff private, but we figured we can show everybody her face at least once or twice or not have to keep hiding her.”

The NFL star previously called Sterling “a pretty good baby,” noting that he was impressed with how little she cried. “I think [fatherhood has] changed me in a sense that you’re just so appreciative of every single day and the little things,” he told Forbes in April 2021.

Shortly after Sterling’s 1st birthday, Patrick and his wife announced in May 2022 that they were expecting their second child. They welcomed their son, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, that November.

As the Chiefs prepared to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII three months later, Patrick made sure his family knew how much they meant to him. He gave Matthews and their little ones a sweet shout-out after being named MVP at the 2023 NFL Honors.

“No matter how I feel coming home, y’all bring me joy and make me appreciate the time that I get to spend with y’all,” he gushed in February 2023. “Thank you for always being there for me during my good times and my bad. Love y’all.”
