High street bargain shop with 23 branches that rivals Flying Tiger to shut location after less than two years

A BELOVED bargain shop is set to close one of its branches after less than two years.

The Chinese giant – which rivals popular Flying Tiger – has 23 shops in the UK but it will now lose its Solihull branch.

The shop specialises in household and consumer goods including cosmetics, stationery, toys, and kitchenware.

It recently had a closing down sale as it prepares to make way for the area’s first Oliver Bonas which will replace it.

The news of Oliver Bonas’ planned arrival has been met with mixed responses, some were sad to see MINISO’s leave and others were excited about the replacement.

One person on Facebook appeared disappointed writing: “Has Miniso closed yet? My daughter loves the shop!”

While another welcomed the change saying: “Delighted to have Oliver Bonas in Solihull!”

“Very excited for Oliver Bonas!” added a third.

A spokesperson for MINISO in Solihull said the closure is ” part of a strategic optimization effort.”

They added: “While the Solihull store is closing, this decision ensures our ongoing commitment to providing an improved and tailored retail experience for our customers.

“We appreciate their continued support, and we’re excited to share that MINISO will be expanding its presence with many new stores opening across the UK this year.”

Although Solihull will bid farewell to MINISO’s this isn’t the end for the store as it’s planning to open new branches.

It has signed a five-year lease to its new 3,200 ft flagship store on 100 Oxford street and has also opened the doors to its biggest-ever UK store on Camden High Street.

It comes as Costa announces the closure of several of its stores.

The chain has already shut the doors to dozens of its sites in recent months.

Costa says it regularly reviews its store estate across the UK to ensure it’s right for its communities and teams.

This can include the closing or renovation of existing stores, or the opening of new stores.
