‘Here we go again’ customers cry as Google issues final warning that 3 popular gadgets will stop working next week

THREE major Google gadgets will stop working forever next week, users have been warned.

And any data saved from them will be deleted, especially previous video recordings.

The move affects some of Google‘s older security and camera products dating back from before it took over Nest.

Google bought Nest for $3.2billion and Dropcam for $555million back in 2014.

The list of affected products are:

Dropcam

Dropcam Pro

Nest Secure

The Nest Cam was ultimately released as a replacement to Dropcam but older kit has continued to work.

That’s until Google announced last year that legacy Dropcams are losing support.

On April 8, users will no longer be able to connect both Dropcams to the Nest app and it’ll stop recording too.

Nest Secure – which was only available in the US – is also disappearing and will no longer be accessible in the Nest app.

“About a year ago we announced that support for Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, and Nest Secure will end on April 8, 2024,” Google said in its final warning.

“Since then, we’ve reached out to impacted users through a series of email communications and in-app messages to help prepare for this transition, and to provide special offers based on eligibility.”

Google has warned Nest Aware users that their subscription will not automatically cancel if their account covers other devices in their home – it will continue to work with those devices.

If you have a first-gen single device Nest Aware subscription and wish to cancel, you can do so at home.nest.com.

People haven’t taken the news well, writing on social media: “Here we go again.”

“More e-waste of perfectly good products,” one user said.

“Had to buy 10 new cameras,” another commented. “Anybody else doing the same?”

Google has been busy offloading a number of products recently.

Earlier this week, the tech giant closed down its Podcasts app in the US – and it’ll disappear in other countries later this year.

Google is urging people to switch to YouTube Music instead.
