Cheering on her mom! Kelly Clarkson brought daughter River Rose, 8, to the 2022 People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday, December 6.
“This is awesome. I’m having a date night with my daughter, River Rose,” the talk show host, 40, told the crowd as she accepted the award for best daytime talk show.
Clarkson shares her little girl and son Remington, 6, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. They tied the knot in October 2013 and finalized their divorce earlier this year after announcing their split in 2020. She was sure to give their youngest a shout-out while accepting her award at the California ceremony.
“Remy, I know you’re at home. You’re not feeling well. We love you, baby,” she said.
Of course, the “Since U Been Gone” singer thanked her fans for the honor. “This is really cool to get because this is where the people vote, and I feel like for the last 20 years — well, that’s my whole career — has been people literally voting me in,” the American Idol alum explained. “This is very important to me because this is why I have an entire career — because y’all have been supporting me for that long. So whether it’s singing or a talk show or whatever I’m doing, I really appreciate it.”
After sending gratitude to NBC and her team at The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Grammy winner revealed how she planned to celebrate the big night: “Thank you so much. I’m gonna go have ice cream with my baby girl!”
River Rose got to brush arms with some A-list celebs while backstage with her mom. She met Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay, who raved about Clarkson to River.
“Your mom, I was on her show because I was so lucky to be on her awesome show, and she wanted to ask me questions and I wouldn’t even let her,” the actress, 58, explained as Clarkson laughed, via Today.
Hargitay continued, “You know why? Because I love her so much and she sings my favorite song. And she made me cry and I started crying on her show because I love her voice and it went right into my soul and in my gut … and not a lot of people can do that where they sing and it goes like a ray of light into someone’s soul. And that’s what your mom does.”
The “Wrapped in Red” songstress and River Rose also chatted with Shania Twain during their girls’ night out.
