Harry Kane scores hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 8-1 rout over Mainz… but it does not count

HARRY KANE was in lethal form for Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The England marksman netted three times in the 8-1 demolition of Mainz in the Bundesliga.

He also laid on an outstanding assist for Jamal Musiala in another accomplished performance for the Bavarians.

The three strikes brought his tally to 30 goals in the league alone, in what has been a sensational start to life in Germany.

Kane set his side on their way after 13 minutes, before Man Utd target Leon Goretzka added a second six minutes later.

Nadiem Amiri reduced the deficit, before ex-Tottenham striker Kane added his second in stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Thomas Muller added a fourth two minutes into the second period, with Musiala scoring the fifth and Serge Gnabry a sixth.

Kane completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, after heading in at the far post.

Goretzka completed the thrashing in the 93rd minute.

Kane appeared delighted with his goal haul, and now has 36 goals in 34 matches in all competitions.

It was the fourth time this campaign he has netted three goals in a game.

However, despite scoring what we would call a hat-trick, the Germans don’t see it that way.

For a ‘true hat-trick’ in German football, one must score three goals in the same half and score them consecutively, with no one else bagging in between.

With Kane scoring Bayern’s first, third and seventh unfortunately it doesn’t count.

The emphatic result sees the Bavarians move to within seven points of leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

They refuse to give up on reclaiming the title, although Xabi Alonso’s side maintain a strong lead at the top.
