Harry Kane reveals he levelled Spurs goals record vs Fulham after being up all night with a FEVER as Conte hails striker

HARRY KANE shook off illness to become Tottenham’s joint all-time top scorer with a classy winner at Fulham last night.

The England captain, 29, netted his 266th goal to draw level with legend Jimmy Greaves.

Kane’s 20-yard strike on the stroke of half-time was also his 199th goal in the Premier League.

He said: “To get the goal and equal the record was a nice feeling. I’ve been playing football long enough to know where the goal is.

“That’s just instinct. That’s just being a striker, the joy of scoring goals.

“I used the defender to get the bend around him and then it is hard for the goalkeeper because he is unsighted. I train a lot with my finishing with mannequins.

“Last night was tough, up every couple of hours. A bug or virus, I have three kids but I have a day off tomorrow.”

Despite the personal accolades, Kane has still yet to taste silverware with Tottenham but a move is not on his mind.

And he added: “I am just concentrating on this season. There will always be talk about my future, I just want to focus on my job on the pitch.”

Spurs boss Antonio Conte hailed hero Kane for battling through.

Conte said: “I want to underline that Harry played with a fever.

“He was not so good but he wanted to play because he understood the moment and that he’s a point of reference for me and the players.

“I’d like to help him to try to do something important — to win something with Tottenham because Harry loves Tottenham, it is his heart.

“It’s important for him to have this record but it would be more important to lift the trophy. We have to be dreamers.”

Kane almost broke the record only for a fine save by Fulham keeper Bernd Leno late on.

The striker added: “I wasn’t thinking about the record but whenever I miss a chance I expect to score I am disappointed.”

Kane, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, has yet to sign a new Spurs deal.

Conte has also not committed his long-term future to the club.

But Kane said a meeting last week between players and Conte helped their season get back on track.

Kane added: “We had a good meeting, just to  talk among ourselves to get back to what we’re good at. We’ve got to keep fighting.”
