Google Nest owners must upgrade three common gadgets now to avoid theft nightmare – check if yours is on the list

GOOGLE has finally issued a Nest update to patch up a bug that could leave homeowners high and dry in situations of burglaries and theft.

Last month, an update titled 1.69 for Nest Cam models made all night vision footage blurry.

Daytime footage had been largely unaffected.

But that didn’t stop the bug from scuppering a Nest customer’s chances of capturing footage of their car being broken into overnight in October, according to 9to5Google.

The footage may have been valuable in a police investigation to catch the thief.

“Video quality is probably the worst of any smart doorbell at the moment since firmware 1.69,” one customer wrote on X (formerly Twitter) earlier this month.

According to affected users, advice via a Google help forum told customers to clean their cam lenses when they first complained of the 1.69 update.

Fortunately, Google has since confirmed that the issue is a software bug, and that an update is now rolling out to Nest Cam models.
