Welcome to 9honey Celebrity’s live blog for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards, which is gearing up to be a night of good old fashioned Hollywood glitz and glamour – and stiff competition amongst nominees.
Of course, Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie‘s blockbuster Barbie is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, but it won’t be competing with the other half of ‘Barbenheimer’ – Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer – as that’s in the Best Motion Picture – Drama category.
Read on to see the biggest moments, winners and surprises as they happen.

All the Aussie stars up for Golden Globes
It’s going to be a big night for Australia, with the country’s unofficial ambassador Margot Robbie being nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Barbie, and the film itself being nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
Sarah Snook is also up for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama gong for her performance in Succession, which is the most nominated television show at this year’s ceremony.
And Elizabeth Debicki is up for Best Supporting Actress – Television, for her performance as Princess Diana in The Crown.
In an unlikely rivalry, Australia’s own Margot Robbie is battling out category newcomer Taylor Swift for the cinematic and box office achievement award, which could see the pop star nab her very first Golden Globe for her Eras Tour Movie.
Robbie, meanwhile, is nominated for her film Barbie.
It’s one of the most unusual battles in Golden Globes history, so says US entertainment journalist Sam Rubin. He told TODAY: “The big battle might be between Margot Robbie and Taylor Swift for this category of cinematic achievement.
“You have Barbie up against Taylor Swift’s movie. I do think Margot Robbie walks away with at least one Golden Globe tonight. Maybe more.”

Do the Golden Globes winners predict the Oscars?
Every year, although there are a few awards ceremonies preceding it (see: Palm Springs International Film Awards and Creative Arts Emmy Awards), the Golden Globes officially kick off awards season – and the event is usually billed as one that can predict the outcome of the Oscars in March.
But that theory isn’t always one that comes true – last year, Everything Everywhere All At Once won Best Picture at the Oscars, and at the earlier Golden Globes, The Fabelmans was named best movie drama, with The Banshees of Inisherin taking out best comedy or musical movie.
One reason for this could be that the voting body for the Golden Globes – formerly the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, now comprised of 300 journalists from around the world – isn’t as big as the voting pool of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

It also has two best picture categories – one for drama, and one for comedy or musical – whereas the Oscars only has one.
