Gary Neville REFUSES to accept Man Utd as Premier League title challengers.. and reveals reason why

GARY NEVILLE has refused to accept that Manchester United could be challenging for the Premier League title this season.

The club legend believes that the Red Devils have not spent enough in the transfer market to turn themselves into contenders.

Man United have seen three players come through the doors at Old Trafford this summer.

Mason Mount has joined from Chelsea for £65million, Andre Onana has made the move from Inter Milan for £47m while Rasmus Hojlund has been the biggest arrival with the club splashing £72m on him.

However, the business has not been enough to convince Neville that Erik ten Hag‘s side are ready to rival Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title.

This is because, Neville claims that the business by the club’s rivals has been better.

Chelsea has splurged £300m this summer on eight players, while Arsenal have bought in three new faces costing nearly £200m while Manchester City have so far spent £110m on two players.

Neville told Sky Sports: “There will be those that say Manchester United should be challenging for the title now.

“But realistically, looking at where Arsenal are and how they have recruited this summer, and looking how established Manchester City are, I think it would be unrealistic and harsh to say Manchester United should be competing for the title.

“For that to happen, Antony would have to explode this season, Marcus Rashford would have to hit the same numbers.

“Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana would have to hit the ground straight away.

“That is difficult, Hojlund is young, Onana has taken the most pressurised job in English football – Manchester United goalkeeper.

“I still think third and trophy would be success, but I understand where the pressure comes from after their spending under Erik ten Hag.”

Man United finished third in the league last summer and also won the Carabao Cup.

Neville however has revealed that he thinks Arsenal will win the league title this season because he does not want City to win it four times in a row.
