Fury as Google Nest doorbell cameras go ‘offline’ for WEEKS – how to check if yours is still working

GOOGLE customers are in uproar over claims their Nest cameras appear offline and that they’re locked out of viewing live feeds.

The tech giant is yet to make an official statement on the issue, but the silence has left users vowing to ditch their products.

On Monday, one customer wrote in a Google community forum that their Nest camera had suddenly stopped working.

“All of a sudden today it went offline but is still uploading events so it’s only the live view that appears to be affected,” they wrote.

“No other camera on my network has a problem so it’s not internet or Wi-Fi related.

“I’m currently away so it’s the worst time it could happen.”

Google customers with various different Nest camera products, including doorbells, are experiencing the same issue.

The Google Home app, for both iOS and Android users, is showing their cameras as “offline,” implying they aren’t properly working.

Clicking through and scrolling back even a couple of minutes will show the camera is working and uploading video history, according to a 9to5Google report.

The problem is currently only limited to the live view feature – so you should try access this feature if you’re unsure whether you too are affected.

However, it even persists even through a factory reset.

Google has yet to make an official statement on the matter.

In response to one concerned Twitter user at the beginning of the month, the tech giant said that it was looking into the potential bug.

There has been no update on the status of the investigation since.

And customers have grown restless with the “absolutely awful silence” on the issue.

Another customer in the Google community forum said that this latest problem, alongside a lack of updates, has them considering ‘binning’ their devices.

“Sadly with all their failings of unproven updates of late I’m considering binning their whole Google infrastructure, not cheap with all the cameras and hubs but they clearly have lost their way and don’t keep folk up to date,” they wrote.

“As you say for such a company you’d expect prior warnings etc, alas more like pin the tail on the donkey approaches and let those who use their kit field test it.

“Sadly when it’s for security you can only tolerate so much before you bin the lot.

“Absolutely awful the silence on this mess.”
