Furious Brentford stars ‘confronted referee in heated tunnel bust-up’ after Kai Havertz avoided red in Arsenal clash

FURIOUS Brentford stars reportedly confronted the referee in a heated tunnel bust-up after Arsenal match winner Kai Havertz avoided a red card.

The former Chelsea star netted an 86th header to secure a 2-1 win for the Gunners at the Emirates on Saturday night.

The result saw Arsenal move top of the table, where they remained on Sunday following Liverpool and Man City’s 1-1 draw.

But Brentford were far from happy at picking up their 16th defeat of the campaign as they battle the drop.

Havertz had already been booked for using an elbow while jumping for a ball.

But ref Rob Jones failed to show a second yellow when Havertz dived while being challenged by Nathan Collins.

Brentford were left fuming at the decision, and even more so when Havertz popped up at the death to deny them a hard-fought point.

However, the Mirror claims things turned ugly at the final whistle.

Brentford players reportedly confronted Jones down the tunnel, with many shouting and swearing.

Collins was allegedly heard shouting “f*****g disgrace” and “cheat”.

While some Bees staff members were also involved in the anger directed at Jones.

But there will be no action taken by the FA, as Jones did not include the incident in his match report.

A witness claimed: “It was kicking off. It never got beyond a lot of shouting and accusations but they were very unhappy.”

Brentford remain 15th after the loss, just five points above 18th-place Luton who still have a game in hand.

They’ve won just seven games all season, with their last victory coming against Wolves over a month ago.

However, four of their last five games have been against Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

And Brentford can give their survival hopes a huge shot in the arm in upcoming games against bottom three teams Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United.

Brentford have been contacted for comment by SunSport.
