From scented bottles to alert systems, we test three hydration products to boost productivity

ADULTS should drink between two and two and a half litres of water a day.

But more than half of us miss out on the optimum consumption we need to keep our organs and minds healthy, as well as boost our productivity and skin.

We test three options and enjoy a healthy boost from all of them

Hydration products, from scented water bottles to alert systems that remind us to drink, are a handy way to keep up.

Jane Atkinson tested three options and enjoyed a healthy boost from all of them.

GET A REMINDER

ULLA is a tiny, blinking device attached to a stretchy band that can fit around any water bottle or tumbler.

It is fully automated and uses motion to monitor how often you drink.

If you’re not taking in enough water, a small light will flash on and off, reminding you to take a sip at least once an hour.

I thought this might be gimmicky but it was brilliant, an easy way to remind me to hydrate through my working day.

The alert is subtle but does its job and I could confidently say it made me at least double my water consumption with its gentle reminders.

GET A FLAVOUR

AIR UP is a refillable water bottle that uses scented pods to trick your brain into thinking that it’s drinking cola or fruit flavoured water by stimulating your sense of smell when you drink.

The benefit is that you get amazing smelling (and therefore tasting) water without any of the sugar or additives found in squash or fizzy drinks.

They are great fun and your kids will absolutely love them after seeing them all over the internet.

However the pods, which are designed to flavour at least five litres of water, cost from £4.99 for three which makes it an expensive habit.

If you do go for it, the peach flavours are lovely and be prepared for long-term investment in your water.

Bottle plus three pods £29.99, air-up.com.

GET SOME FIZZ

MY family absolutely loves SodaStream and its newest sparkling water machine makes it incredibly easy to carbonate water for fizzy drinks.

Their E-Terra system has a one-touch technology for your preferred level of fizz.

The end product is also sustainable because the need for disposable plastic water bottles from shops is reduced.

The machine uses 60-litre gas canisters that cost £23-25 to replace but can be exchanged at supermarkets or online with a £10 discount.

I also tried the brand’s reduced sugar, organic Summer Orange cordial which was delicious and had 4.8g of sugar versus 8g in regular soda per 100ml.

E-Terra £144.99, Organic Flavour collection, £5.99 a bottle, sodastream.co.uk.  Read More
