Frequent flyer reveals simple way to have first class flight experience in economy plane seats – but there’s a catch

A FREQUENT flyer has revealed the way in which passengers can feel like they’re flying in business class while sitting in economy on planes.

Getting a free upgrade is a rarity, but there are ways to give yourself a more luxurious experience, while staying in the cheap seats.

Tiktoker and travel expert Chelsea Fagan (@faganchelsea) showed which seats she books and how she adds a little extra comfort to her trips, without forking out for more expensive seats.

First, she picks the bulkhead seat – the ones at the front of the economy class rows.

Then she uses an inflatable footrest, allowing her to put her feet up, as she would be able to in first or business class.

She said it was one of only a few travel “hacks” that really made things better for passengers.

In her video, she said: “I have flown a lot in my life and that means that I know the difference between a travel hack that actually changes your experience and one that basically doesn’t do anything.

“And 90% of the travel tips that I see on here are mid at best, but this is genuinely my best one.

“This is the closest you’ll get to business class while in economy.

“When you’re flying, pick a bulkhead seat – that is not an exit row.

“Bulkhead just basically means it’s one of the seats that’s behind a wall rather than behind another person.

“And it can’t be an exit row because you can’t have anything on the floor.”

Not picking an exit row seat is crucial for this hack, because if you do, you can’t use the footrest, as Chelsea explains.

She continued: “Then you’re going to get one of these inflatable footrests, you can get them on Amazon or elsewhere.

“Then, as seen in this photo of me flying from Dublin to New York a couple of years ago, you just set yourself up.

“You get to have your feet propped up and stretched out the whole way.”

Chelsea’s video has been seen by almost half a million people, but not everyone was convinced by it.

While the bulkhead rows do have the most legroom, there are a couple of downsides.

As one person pointed out they’re “near the smelly toilets normally or screaming babies.”

Babies are often found in the bulkhead rows, with the extra space making them the best place to put travel cots.

They are also closest to the toilets at the front of the row.

However, other people vouched for the hack saying it was a great way to relax on flights.

One wrote: “I’ve been doing this for over a decade.”

Another added: “As a frequent international flyer, i think you may have just changed my life.”

The footrests are available for £16.99 on Amazon and can help reducing the risk of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and ease back pain while sitting for long period of time on a plane.

It also comes with an eye mask, 2 earplugs, and a drawstring carrying bag, meaning you can carry it easily and help shut out the light and sound during your flight.

Meanwhile, here is how to get extra legroom on flights by changing the way you bring your hand luggage onboard.

Another traveller revealed how to find out which airlines have the most legroom in economy before booking your flights.
