According to Globo, the Fire Department were swiftly on the scene to attend to Colares’ injuries.

But he was in a “serious condition” and died on the way to the hospital.

Colares, nicknamed Cabocao, tragically leaves behind his wife Jaqueline and 10-month-old son.

He held a professional MMA record of 11 victories and four defeats.

He made his debut in the sport back in 2013, winning his first eight fights.

The South American became the Jungle Fight featherweight champion in 2017.

He then began fighting under the UFC‘s banner in 2019, starting out with a defeat to Geraldo de Freitas.

Colares bounced back with a win over Domingo Pilarte, before another loss at the hands of Montel Jackson.

He responded with a victory against Luke Jackson.

But his time in the UFC came to an end following back-to-back losses against Chris Gutierrez and Chase Hooper.

A win over Alioune Nahaye in Paris earlier this year proved to be his final bout.

Outside of the ring, Colares made headlines back in January when he stopped a robbery by taking down the suspect and holding him until the police turned up.

Speaking after the incident, he said: “I went back to my car and went to the woman to check the situation, and indeed it was a robbery.

“My friends and I went back to the car and saw the man. After noticing he was unarmed, we intervened and managed to pin the robber using jiu-jitsu techniques.”
