Former Man Utd star’s son, 9, follows in famous dad’s footsteps as he signs first contract

FORMER Manchester United star Nani’s son has begun his own journey to become a football ace.

The ex-Old Trafford player watched his son Lucas sign at the same club he played at during his youth.

Nani joined the Sporting CP youth team back in 2003, winning the National Junior Championship in 2004-05, before making his first-team debut early in the 2005-06 season.

He signed for Manchester United in 2007, who paid about £22million for the young winger.

He went on to play 230 times for the Red Devils, with 41 goals and 73 assists before his departure in 2015 to Fenerbahce.

He was a key reason for Portugal’s success at the 2016 Euros, outshining his captain and former Man Utd teammate Cristiano Ronaldo

The current Melbourne Victory player posted a picture on Twitter of Lucas signing a contract at Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.

He captioned it with an emoji of a pen, a green heart and a lion.

The team are known as the Green and Whites for their shirt colours, or the Lions for the symbol on the club’s crest.

The nine-year-old will train as part of the club’s youth academy, just like his father did.

Many of the replies wondered if Lucas would eventually go on to join Manchester United one day.

Nani and his wife, Daniela Martins, apparently met in 2007-08, when he was playing at Old Trafford.

The couple tied the knot in 2013 and then welcomed baby Lucas shortly afterwards.

They both keep their family life private, but Nani did share a touching moment with Lucas during Euro 2016 when he brought his son onto the pitch after Portugal’s win against Croatia.

Maybe one day father and son will be back on the pitch celebrating together.
