Lyon have had a dreadful start to the season as they have only picked up one point from their opening four fixtures, losing three.

Now, according to L’Equipe, the Lyon board have had enough and pulled the trigger on sacking Blanc.

Back in August, Blanc, 57, even admitted that Lyon might have to ‘change the manager” when asked about changing the situation at the club.

The report claims that Blanc was told about the decision to ask him on Friday.

Training will now be taken by the club’s U19 coach Jeremie Brechet and John Textor’s advisor Sonny Anderson, as well as assistant coach Jean-Francois Vulliez, while a replacement is found.

It is also suggested that the leading candidate to replace Blanc is former AC Milan and Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso.

He most recently took charge of LaLiga side Valencia in June last year but left the club after seven months in January by mutual consent.

It is said that the Italian would be keen on a switch to the Ligue 1 outfit.

Among the other candidates to replace Blanc are former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui and Eintracht Frankfurt’s former coach Oliver Glasner.

Meanwhile, Graham Potter is also thought to have held talks over the job.

However, the former Chelsea and Brighton manager has rejected the job.

Blanc spent two years at Man United between 2001 and 2003, winning the Premier League.
