Al Ain confirmed his appointment on Monday, with Crespo replacing Alfred Schreuder.

The Dutchman was sacked last week after just four months in charge.

Crespo’s arrival sees him start his fifth managerial role since 2019, having had spells with both Banfield and Defensa in his native Argentina.

He later managed Brazilian giants Sao Paulo in 2021 before heading to the Middle East to lead Al-Duhail.

The 48-year-old guided Al-Duhail to a domestic treble in Qatar last season but was relieved of his duties in October.

Following a poor start to their AFC Champions League campaign, the club parted ways with Crespo.

He will be hoping for more success at Al Ain, who are record 14-time winners of the UAE Pro League.

However, they missed out on the title last season and are currently third in the table, two points off leaders Al Wasl.

Al Ain have made a strong start in the AFC Champions League, though, already booking their place in the last 16.

Crespo is a familiar name to fans in England after spending five years with Chelsea between 2003 and 2008.

He won a single league title with the Blues and scored 25 goals in 73 appearances for the club.
