Foo Fighters announce first Australian stadium tour in five years

Aussie Foo Fighters fans rejoice – for the first time in five years, the rock giants are returning Down Under.

Announced this morning, the multi-Grammy-winning band will tour stadiums across the country later this year.

Starting in Perth, the band will then move on to perform in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in November and December 2023, before taking the tour to New Zealand in early 2024.

It’s the band’s first full tour of Australia since 2018, though they notably performed in March 2022 a one-off show in Geelong, a concert done in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Always Live program.

At the time, fans had no idea it would be the last time they’d see late drummer Taylor Hawkins perform live with the band – weeks later, while on tour in Colombia, Hawkins died aged 50.

Foo Fighters immediately cancelled the rest of that tour, including their pre-scheduled 2022 Australia and New Zealand dates, and later held tribute concerts for Hawkins – who left behind wife Alison Hawkins, whom he had been married to since 2005, and their three children – in London and Los Angeles.

In December, nine months on from Hawkins’ death, the band, which is led by Dave Grohl, announced they would continue as a group without Hawkins.

Months later, in May 2023, they confirmed Josh Freese would take Hawkins’ place as drummer.

And on June 2, 2023, more than a year after Hawkins’ death, the band released their eleventh studio album But Here We Are, their first without Hawkins.

Tickets for Foo Fighters’ upcoming Australia and New Zealand tour go on sale on June 15 at Frontier Touring, with some pre-sales occurring in the days beforehand.
