Flight attendant refuses to let plane take off until ‘passengers clean up their mess’

A FLIGHT attendant “refused to let a plane take off” after passengers left a huge mess on the aisle floor.

The passengers were travelling on a Southwest Airlines flight earlier this month when someone spilled rice across the floor.

Jennifer Schaper, who was on the plane, shared images of what happened on social media.

She wrote: “Just boarded the plane and somebody spilled food.

“The flight attendant screamed ‘who spilled rice?’ and is walking up and down the aisles.

“They are refusing to leave the gate until someone cleans the rice.”

In the image, a huge pile of yellow rice blocks the aisle, and she said no-one owned up to it.

Jennifer continued in her tweets: “The people in my row and I have now the giggles and she’s looking at us suspiciously.”

A later tweet updated: “Rice is getting cleaned but she is MAD.

“She has let us all know that we were not raised right and she is disappointed in all of us.”

Jennifer added that while there were a few “bumps” during the flight, the crew didn’t offer a drink service.

She joked it was like the “Voyage of the Damned” along with others onboard.

Southwest responded in the comments, saying: “We’re sorry that our Crew was unable to provide onboard refreshments due to bumpy travel conditions.

“Safety is always our number one priority, but we hope that we can make it up to you next time!

“Thank you for bearing there with us, Jennifer.”

Sun Online Travel has contacted Southwest Airlines for additional comment.

It comes just days after a dad sparked debate when he slammed crew for making his pregnant wife clean up the mess caused by their kids.

Baseball player Anthony Bass was travelling with his family when he said crew told his 22-week pregnant wife to pick up the mess caused by his 5-year-old and 2-year-old kids.

Posting a picture on Twitter, he showed the mess caused by his kids who had thrown popcorn around their seats and into the aisle.

He wrote: “The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess made by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?”

While some were on his side, most people said that it was on him to clean up their own mess and not leaving it to the poor cleaning crew.

Verna Montalvo, a cabin cleaner for American Airlines at Dallas-Fort Worth airport, told the Washington Post that she and her team sometimes had as little as four minutes to do the job each time.

She said: “Some flight attendants get upset because it’s not clean. Of course it’s not clean – because this is how much [time] they give us.”

Flight attendant Caroline Kneitz chipped into the saga, saying passengers should “treat public spaces as if they are rooms of your home,” adding it was a “form of vandalism” to cause a huge mess.

She added: “So yes, I do believe a parent should take care that the kid doesn’t mess up the space.”
