Five times Meghan Markle & Harry appear to change their story in Netflix documentary – from their first date to proposal

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry appeared to have changed their story FIVE TIMES in their bombshell Netflix docuseries.

The couple’s £88m show, titled Harry & Meghan, dives into the pair’s “love story” as well as their feud with the Royal Family.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle changed their stories a number of times during the docuseries

The couple changed the story of their first date and the night of their proposal

The first three episodes of the six-part series sees the duchess relive her “jarring” first meeting with Princess Kate.

Meanwhile Harry made a sly dig at his dad King Charles‘ parenting by claiming he was “brought up” by friends in Africa.

In some of the couple’s stories, there appear to be inconsistencies to things they previously said.

These include the story of their first date – and how Harry proposed.

Here are all the changes to their stories explained.

First date

In the bombshell Netflix show, the Duke of Sussex said he met the Duchess “over Instagram” – despite previously claiming that they met on a blind date.

Back in 2017, Harry told the BBC: “It was definitely a set-up — it was a blind date. It was a blind date for sure.”

But in the first episode of the series, Harry claimed: “Meghan and I met over Instagram.”

He added: “I was scrolling through my feed and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them.”

The Prince revealed the first time he saw a picture of Meghan was a snap of her with a dog filter over her face.

“Oh gosh, isn’t that whole thing, it’s got like doggy ears,” Meghan said, laughing.

“That was the first thing. I was like who is that?,” Harry said. Meghan added: “That’s ridiculous.”

Harry then messaged their mutual friend to help him get in touch with Meghan – and they began texting.

The couple then headed out for drinks which lasted just “one hour” .

Meghan revealed Harry was late to arrive, adding: “He kept texting ‘I’m in traffic, I’m so sorry’.”

Harry jumps in: “I was panicking, I was freaking out. I was sweating.”

But when he did eventually arrive, the Duchess said that Harry was “refreshingly fun” while the Prince said they had a “great chat”.

Engagement

The couple shared new pics of Harry’s proposal

Harry and Meghan also left fans baffled after appearing to change their proposal story with the release of a new picture.

In the docuseries, Harry claimed that he proposed to Meghan outside in a romantic candle-lit garden.

The couple shared a snap showing Harry down on one knee during the evening picnic before he popped the question.

And they were seen posing with Meghan’s dog just moments after the Duchess said yes to her now-husband.

However, the pics appear to differ to the engagement story the couple previously told.

They told BBC One it was a “cosy night in” roasting chicken.

Harry had previously said: “It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, here at our cottage; just a standard typical night for us.”

Meghan then added: “We were just roasting chicken.

“Trying to roast a chicken and it just — just [was] an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”

Meghan previously made no mention of the candle-lit picnic outside.

Palace claims

Episode one opened with words written in white on a black background which said: “This is a first-hand account of Harry & Meghan’s story, told with never before seen personal archive.

“All interviews were completed by August 2022.

“Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content within this series.”

However, Royal insiders said that Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace nor any member of the family were approached for comment on the content of the Netflix series.

During episode three, Meghan claimed that she rarely wore colour while in the UK.

She said: “When I was in the UK I rarely wore colour”.

The Duchess explained that the reason for this was mainly not to clash with the Queen and more senior royals.

Meghan said: “I wore a lot of muted tones… I also wore it so I could just blend in.”

And she added: “I’m not trying to stand out here. I don’t want to embarrass the family.”

However, there are a number of pictures taken on royal occasions showing that Meghan has routinely worn bright colours including red, green and yellow.

Oprah interview

The couple also claimed in their docuseries that they haven’t told their story till now.

Meghan says: “We weren’t allowed to tell our story because they didn’t want…”

Harry adds: “We’ve never been allowed to tell our story.”

Meghan replies: “That’s true. That is consistent. Until now.”

But Harry and Meghan plunged the monarchy into crisis with their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, while the Duke of Edinburgh was in hospital.

The Duke and Duchess accused an unnamed member of the family of racism towards their son Archie before he was born.

They also claimed the institution failed to help the duchess when she was suicidal.
