Once it’s up and running, the speedway will be the fastest ride at the theme park.

It will see two teams going head to head in a race on the duelling coaster, which will go both forwards and in reverse across two separate tracks.

It’s expected that the new coaster will be able to reach speeds of up to 56km/h (34mph).

Next to the ride will be the world’s largest Lego minifigure character, Roxie.

Standing at 10m tall, the six-tonne statue, clad in a racing suit, is the official mascot for the brand new attraction.

Upon revealing the launch date, Legoland also shared a video showing the finishing touches being put on the ride.

Its cars are seen being lowered onto the track and clipped together before being sent on a practice run.

The Legoland website says: “Join us at the Minifigure Speedway, the world’s first LEGO themed duelling rollercoaster that not only races forward but also races in reverse!

“This high octane ride is the ultimate family coaster that is a real, live race between the Team Legends and Allstars, led by your Minifigure captain.

“Put the pedal to the metal and then slam it in reverse, who will be first across the finish line?”

The Minifigure Speedway opens from 12.30pm on Sunday, March 29.
