Final day for bargain supermarket with 336 stores as another branch closes – but it says ‘bigger and better’ on its way

A BARGAIN supermarket with 336 stores is set to close another branch today.

The Farmfoods store off London Road in Grantham, Lincolnshire, will close its doors for a final time.

But the discount retailer will open a “new bigger and better store” in Discovery Retail Park.

The new premises will open on October 7 after plans were approved in June to merge two vacant units.

The former Laura Ashley store and its neighbour Poundstretcher will be knocked into one.

Scotland-based Farmfoods, which began in an Aberdeen butchers shop 60 years ago, now has more than 300 stores nationwide.

It often has some cheap offers on popular products, which shoppers regularly rush to pick up including makeup and air fryers at stores across the country.

But this isn’t the first store that Farmfoods has closed this year.

The store in Market Street, Huddersfield, scanned its last barcode on September 24.

Its Cowgate store in Dundee shut in March, with another Glasgow shop closing the month before.

Plus its store in West Bromwich closed in May.

The frozen food specialist pulled down the shutters at its Baillieston branch at the end of February.
