Mainoo was back in the Red Devils starting XI for their clash against Chelsea on Thursday.

And he was proving once again why so many have called for him to start in the Three Lions midfield at Euro 2024.

While facing off against Argentine World Cup star Fernandez early on, Mainoo got the better of his opponent – who signed for Chelsea in January 2023 for £106m.

Mainoo had played a one-two with frontman Rasmus Hojlund to skip around the press of the backtracking Moises Caicedo.

Fernandez, 23, then tried to win the ball off of the Carrington graduate.

However, Mainoo brushed off the challenge with Fernandez then falling to the floor.

Fans rushed to comment on the duel on social media, with one saying: “Kobbie Mainoo bodied Enzo Fernandez.”

A second said: “Did I just see Enzo getting bodied by Mainoo. Mainoo is CLEAR.”

A third added: “CLIP MAINOO SITTING ENZO DOWN RN.”

Another said: “Mainoo just sat Enzo down.”

A fifth said: “If Enzo was £100m, Mainoo is worth £300m. I’ve tried not to gas it but this kid might be generational.”

The first half of the game proved to be chaotic as Chelsea surged into an early 2-0 thanks to goals from Conor Gallagher and a Cole Palmer penalty following an Antony foul on Marc Cucurella.

However, the visitors then got back into the game as Alejandro Garnacho latched onto a misplaced Moises Caicedo pass before Bruno Fernandes nodded home an equaliser shortly before the break.

Antony then delivered a wondrous outside of the boot assist from the right wing for Alejandro Garnacho to head Man Utd’s third goal past an on-rushing Djordje Petrović.

But there was more drama to come, with Cole Palmer scoring a penalty and then again in injury time in a remarkable 4-3 win for Chelsea.
