Fans reduced to tears as non-league Maidstone stun Championship high-flyers Ipswich by taking lead in FA Cup clash

MAIDSTONE UNITED fans were reduced to tears after the non-league side took a shock lead against Championship high-flyers Ipswich.

The National League South side spent much of the first-half camped in their box as they desperately attempted to keep Ipswich at bay.

But the non-league side somehow managed to take the lead in the 43rd minute as they took their chance on the counter.

Liam Sole was able to thread a hooked long ball through to Lamar Reynolds, who took the ball under his control brilliantly.

Under immense pressure, Reynolds then brilliantly lifted the ball over Ipswich keeper Christian Walton.

The goal provoked some amazing scenes of celebration as players piled on top of Reynolds.

Virtually every player was involved in the celebration, including goalkeeper Lucas Covolan and several substitutes.

It was Maidstone’s only shot of the game at that point, and virtually the only time they made their way into Ipswich’s half.

Ipswich racked up 17 shots by half-time.

Stunned fans reacted to the goal on X, formerly known as Twitter.
