Fans claim they were ‘kicked out’ of the Drew Barrymore show for supporting the writer’s strike

Drew Barrymore‘s decision to resume her show amid the ongoing Hollywood strikes has taken another controversial turn.

An audience member has now accused crew members working on the The Drew Barrymore Show of kicking them out over showing support for the writer’s strike.

Dominic Turiczek and Cassidy Carter were attending the show’s Monday taping at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York when they were reportedly “kicked out” for wearing Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) pins they accepted from picketers outside.

The accusation comes after Barrymore announced she would be resuming the fourth season of her daytime show, despite the ongoing Hollywood writers and actor’s strike.

”Went to @DrewBarrymoreTV after winning tickets, unaware of the #WGA strike,” Turiczek began his statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Turiczek later clarified they had been aware of the strike but only discovered Barrymore’s show had WGA writers working once they were inside the studio.

On Monday, WGA East confirmed on X that they would be picketing outside the taping after determining The Drew Barrymore Show was “in violation” of the strike.

Turiczek and Carter were given pins by picketers which had ‘Writers Guild on strike’ written on the red button.

“We took pins & went in, got kicked out, & verbally assaulted by @DrewBarrymore’s crew,” Turiczek claimed.

“It’s clear they don’t support #WGAStrong, writers or fans! #DrewTheRightThing So we took shirts and joined.”

In a comment under the original post, Turiczek confirmed that they hadn’t done anything to “cause any sort of scene” before being kicked out by staff member.

Carter also confirmed this in her own statement on X after sharing that the duo had even offered to remove the pins.

“We offered to put them away and some bald bozo said we weren’t allowed in sooo we joined the strike!” she said.

In a statement secured by People, a spokesperson for The Drew Barrymore Show addressed the claims from the two audience members, revealing that Barrymore herself was “completely unaware of the incident.”

“It is our policy to welcome everyone to our show tapings,” they said.

“Due to heightened security concerns today, we regret that two audience members were not permitted to attend or were not allowed access.”

They then shared that the show was reaching out to Turiczek and Carter to offer then new tickets.

In Barrymore’s statement on Monday, she told her followers that she would “own this choice” to resume the show while the writer’s strike was still going.

“We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind.” she assured.

“I want to be there to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience,” she added.
