Erik ten Hag’s side coasted into a 2-0 lead thanks to the superb Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Ryan Yates then tried to get Forest back into the game with an effort from range just after the half an hour mark.

De Gea dealt with his effort by using his chest to keep the ball out of the net.

The Spaniard appeared to adjust as the ball swerved mid-flight after he initially motioned to save with his hands.

And in the end United stopper De Gea parried it away with his chest.

But fans were confused after seeing De Gea’s unorthodox method of keeping the ball out.

One joked: “Bro De Gea is so fed up with accepting shots with his hands so he’s decided to chest balls now. My goalkeeper.”

Another said: “Chest save from De Gea never seen that before from him.”

A third quipped: “Have I just seen De Gea chest it out for a corner????”

And a fourth added: “If you’re playing De Gea Save Bingo, ‘optional chest save’ was excluded from the card but will be added going forth.”

It wasn’t just fans that were left scratching their heads.

Spanish outlet AS claimed even Casemiro asked De Gea how he parried the ball away with his chest.

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro starred for United on the night, providing the assist for Fred to cap off the win late on.
