Family favourite restaurant set to close a dozen branches within days – is your local one of them?

A FAMILY favourite restaurant chain is set to close a dozen branches within days, The Sun can reveal.

The Restaurant Group (TRG), which owns Frankie and Benny’s, previously announced plans to close 18 loss-making restaurants.

The group has confirmed to The Sun that 12 restaurants will close for good after their last day of trading on Saturday, May 27.

It follows the closure of six branches earlier this month, including branches in Blackpool, Tamworth and Chesterfield.

Four Chiquito restaurants and a single Firejacks will also close for good this weekend.

The 12 Frankie and Benny’s set to close on Saturday are:

Aberdeen Birmingham – PlazaCarmarthenEastleighFelthamLeeds Lenton Livingston Norwich – Riverside Peterborough Peterborough – Pavilions WestTaplow

Four Chiquitos restaurants will also close this weekend:

LeedsLentonPeterboroughRochester

A single Firejacks located in Basildon will also close its doors to customers on Saturday.

In total, 17 restaurants will close this weekend taking the total number of closures this month to 23.

The following six Frankie and Benny’s closed earlier this month:

Blackpool ChesterfieldExeter – Marsh Barton Street – Clarks Village Tamworth Tunbridge Wells

In March, the company said that it would close 35 of its Frankie and Benny’s and Chiquito restaurants in order to boost profits.

But the group previously confirmed to The Sun that it has sped up its initial plans after negotiating an early exit from a number of contracts.

Confirmation came after The Sun previously spotted three Frankie and Benny’s restaurants listed for sale with Savills.

Around 12 pubs and restaurants have closed every single day since March 2022, according to consumer research brands CGA by NIQ and AlixPartners.

TRG had previously closed hundreds of its restaurants as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

But it isn’t the only company closing restaurants.

Prezzo, the Italian restaurant chain is closing 46 branches after being hit hard by soaring energy and food costs.

In December 2022, pub chain Wetherspoons announced it would be closing a total of 39 pubs after being hit by soaring inflation.

Plus burger chain Byron Burger fell into administration, immediately closing nine of its branches.
