A NUMBER on your National Insurance (NI) card reveals if you will be paid your state pension early this month.

The day you are paid your pension money usually depends on the last two digits of the identification number.

If the digits are between 00 and 19, you should get paid on Mondays.

It’s Tuesday if they are between 20 and 39, and Wednesday if the digits are between 40 and 59.

Sixty to 79 are paid on a Thursday and numbers 80 to 99 are usually paid on Fridays.

For example, if your NI number is JT 83 42 97B, you should normally paid your state pension on Fridays.

But a number of benefits are paid earlier if you normally get them on a Bank Holiday.

With the Bank Holiday this month falling on May 29, those expecting their payments on this date will see them land in accounts on May 26.

The Government does this to ensure no one is left waiting longer for their payments.

That means if the last two number digits on your NI card are between 00 and 19, you will get paid your state pension three days earlier than usual, on May 26.

Don’t worry if this impacts you as you won’t have to do anything different – the payment will just land in your account earlier.

What benefits are paid early because of the May Bank Holiday?

There are a number of other benefits paid early over the may Bank Holiday. This includes:

Attendance AllowanceCarer’s AllowanceChild BenefitDisability Living AllowanceEmployment and Support AllowanceIncome SupportJobseeker’s AllowancePension CreditPersonal Independence PaymentUniversal CreditTax Credits

Will my benefit amount change?

No, the amount you receive will be the same as usual.

But remember that if you do get paid early, it will mean having to wait longer to receive your next payment.

So you should make sure to budget and plan ahead so you’re not left short.

If your money is not paid on time, then you should double check the date you get paid normally and contact your bank.

Failing that, you can contact the DWP to chase up any missing payments.

You can also submit a complaint to the DWP over any unpaid benefits.
