CARLOS ALCARAZ rubbed shoulders with fellow Wimbledon winner Maria Sharapova after bumping into her in Toronto.

The Spanish sensation is still on cloud nine following his stunning SW19 triumph over former World No.1 Novak Djokovic last month.

Alcaraz, 20, is currently taking part in the Canadian Open in Toronto and is one of the favourites to win the tournament.

And he found himself hanging out with five-time Grand Slam winner Sharapova after a practice session at Academy United.

The duo were all smiles as they posed for a photo, which quickly became the talk of tennis fans on Twitter.

Sharapova is a big fan of Alcaraz, who she hailed a month before his Wimbledon triumph.

The 36-year-old said: “Carlos [Alcaraz] it’s incredible.

“What fascinates me most about him is his fighting spirit on every point.

“He manages to put on a show and ignite the crowd every time he sets foot on the field.

“I can’t wait to see him grow, I’m really curious to see where he can go and what he can do.”

Sharapova, who retired from professional tennis three years ago, used to have a crush on Alcaraz’s coach – Juan Carlos Ferrero – when she was just 16.

She wrote in her book: “In those few weeks, watching Ferrero train, watching him come and go, seeing how he talked and handled himself, how he brushed his hair away from his eyes, I developed a serious crush.”

She said of their age difference: “In most countries, that’s not even legal.

“What can I say? The heart wants what the heart wants.”
