Neville, 46, was axed just days before Inter Miami announced the blockbuster signing of Lionel Messi.

The former England women boss was relieved of his duties by pal David Beckham with Inter Miami sitting bottom of MLS’ Eastern Conference.

Neville has jumped straight into work, accepting an offer to work with Herdman.

He joins Canada’s backroom team alongside former Millwall ace Richard Shaw.

The duo will assist Herdman at the upcoming Concacaf Nations League Finals.

Announcing the appointments, Canada Soccer gushed: “Both Phil and Richard bring with them winning experiences at the highest levels and have worked with some of the premier leagues top managers during their careers.

“They’ll work as positional and unit coaches with the aim of helping us to win our first trophy in over two decades.”

Canada have been drawn to play Panama in the semi-finals – with the USA facing Mexico in the other match.
