Ex-Chelsea bad boy Diego Costa, 34, completes free transfer to 12th club after release by Wolves

FORMER Chelsea star Diego Costa has completed a move to Brazilian side Botafogo.

The 34-year-old spent last season with Wolves, scoring just once in 25 games before he was released.

Costa was signed by then manager Bruno Lage, who is now in charge of Botafogo.

He has penned a short-term deal that runs until the end of the season.

The Rio-based side are currently top of the Brazilian Serie A by 16 points after 19 matches.

On joining Botafogo, Costa said: “I’m very happy to have been chosen to be part of the family. Thanks and I see you soon.”

Costa was born in the country and played for their national team twice before switching allegiances to Spain.

The striker is best remembered by his days as a Premier League bad boy.

Costa was sent off last term for headbutting Brentford’s Ben Mee and got a three-match ban back in 2015 for two stamp incidents on Liverpool players.

He won the Prem twice with Chelsea in 2015 and 2017, finding the back of the net 59 times across three seasons in all competitions.

His time at Stamford Bridge came in the middle of two spells at Atletico Madrid.

Costa also played for the likes of Braga, Celta Vigo, Real Valladolid, Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Mineiro.
