Ex-Arsenal ace wakes up unemployed as Luton RIP UP contract after just ONE SEASON with star available on free transfer

FORMER Arsenal keeper Matt Macey has had his Luton contract ripped up after just one season at the club.

The English shot-stopper, 28, joined the newly-promoted Premier League side at the beginning of last season.

Matt Macey’s Luton contract has been ripped upRex

But he featured just once during their 2022/23 campaign – an appearance which came in the Carabao Cup.

And his lack of game time during the first half of the season saw him move to Portsmouth on loan until the summer.

Now, just three games into Luton‘s Premier League return, he has seen his deal terminated.

A club statement read: “Luton Town can confirm that we have reached an agreement with Matt Macey to be released from his contract by mutual consent.”

They went on to add: “We would like to wish Matt all the best for his future career.”

Macey previously played 13 times for Luton when on loan with the club from Arsenal during the 2016/17 season.

The following campaign saw him return to the Emirates and play his only two games for the Gunners.

A loan spell at League One side Plymouth followed, before he joined Scottish outfit Hibernian on a permanent basis in 2021.

This brought to an end his eight-year stay with Arsenal – who signed him from the Bristol Rovers academy.

He played 52 games for Hibs across an 18-month stint, before he returned to Luton 12 months ago.

Now he is searching for a new club just 24 hours after the transfer window closed.

Free agents can agree deals with clubs at any time during the season.
