Everton’s Ashley Young SENT OFF in first half against Liverpool as fixture keeps up Premier League red-card record

ASHLEY YOUNG has been sent off just 37 minutes into the Merseyside Derby.

The experienced pro was given his marching orders by referee Craig Pawson after picking up two yellow cards in the space of 20 minutes.

Both cards were as a result of blatant fouls on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz who had been causing Young problems all afternoon.

The tricky Colombian was regularly coming up against the Toffees’ full-back down the left flank and ultimately proved too much to handle.

Everton face an uphill battle with just ten men as they try to pick up a result at Anfield.

But the sending off is certainly not unfamiliar territory with Liverpool vs Everton holding the unwanted record of the most reds cards in the history of the Premier League.

There have now been an incredible 23 red cards shown in the fixture since the Premier League began.

It’s not something Young is all that used to however, with the red just his third dismissal in over 430 Premier League appearances.

The 38-year-old wasn’t best pleased with Pawson’s decision either as he stormed down the Anfield tunnel in anger.

Sean Dyche was forced to make changes as a result of the incident as he looked to change up his tactics in hopes of walking away from Everton’s fierce rivals with some points.

The Toffees’ boss hooked wingers Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil in favour of a more defensive approach.

Bringing on Nathan Patterson and Michael Keane in their place to grind out a result away from home.
