Erik Ten Hag makes Scott McTominay transfer decision after Man Utd midfielder’s incredible record this year’s revealed

SCOTT MCTOMINAY’S future at Manchester United has been decided, reports suggest.

McTominay was up for sale during the summer, with the likes of West Ham and Newcastle interested in the Scottish international.

However, a transfer, which could have seen McTominay move for up to £50million, failed to materialise.

The 26-year-old had fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

But after his supersub performance against Brentford, when he scored two injury time goals to hand United victory, his importance to the team has once again been realised.

The Daily Star now report Ten Hag has ruled out the possibility of a January transfer.

The Dutch boss reportedly feels he cannot afford to lose another body from his injury-ravaged squad.

And with United struggling for goals, McTominay‘s record in that regard could offer Ten Hag a perfect solution.

Since netting a brace against Cyprus in March, McTominay has registered a goal or assist every 89 minutes for club and country.

His record of nine goals and one assist in 888 minutes sets him apart with the best goal contribution record of any Man Utd player in that time.

McTominay appeared to have found his scoring touch again with a stunning free-kick in Thursday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain, only for the goal to be ruled out with Spain going on to win 2-0.

He recently addressed claims he used to be a striker in the club’s academy before revealing his best position.

Speaking to Man Utd media, he said: “Just being alive in the box and being quick with it and not being on your heels or sleeping in the box [is key] – whenever there’s a chance for a goal to go in the back of the net you need to take it. I’ve always thought like that.

“People always said: ‘You played as a striker as a kid.’ I never played as a striker.

“I played two games there with [former Reserves coach] Warren Joyce because we had no striker. So, whenever I score a goal, people always say: ‘He used to be a striker, that’s why.’

“I never used to be a striker! I’ve always been a midfield player, a number eight, so it is funny when you hear stuff like that.”

Should Ten Hag opt to make a tactical switch featuring McTominay closer to the goal, some fans may draw similarities to Marouane Fellaini’s time in a similar role under Louis van Gaal.
