Dettori kissed the camera, kissed just about everyone on the walk back to the winner’s enclosure and performed his customary flying dismount.
He even planted a peck on Queen Camilla’s cheek.
The iconic Italian was uncharacteristically short for words afterwards, saying simply: “Unbelievable!
“I thought it was a bridge too far from handicaps to a Group One with this horse but I had the perfect race.
“This horse is still a baby but when Coltrane came back he picked up again.”
Dettori’s heroics came after King Charles and Camilla celebrated their first Ascot winner with 18-1 Desert Hero.
Courage Mon Ami’s trainer John Gosden said: “This will crown his week now.”
Dettori endured a torrid first day, finishing runner-up three times and picking up a nine-day ban.
He finally got on the board with Gregory on day two before getting his first win on Ladies’ Day in the big race.
Dettori will forever be associated with Stradivarius in the Gold Cup.
The duo teamed up to win the race three times – and Courage Mon Ami is the first winner for the Gosdens since Strad completed the hat-trick in 2020.
