Emma Heming speaks candidly about struggles of caring for husband Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis is putting on a brave face, but she doesn’t shy away from vulnerability.

Taking to Instagram, the model has opened up about the struggle of being a care partner amid Bruce’s dementia battle.

In the video posted to her account the star explained that she has been requesting care takers to send in daily photos of something they found beauty in before sharing the images with her fans on her Instagram Story.

“I finished my hike and your pictures are making me so happy, so why am I asking you to do that?” she says in the clip. “I think it’s so important for us to break up our thinking which can feel, for me, very much like doom and gloom.”

Heming admitted that despite her struggle with the “doom and gloom” behind closed doors, she has had to make a conscious effort to put her “best foot forward”.

“I know it looks like I’m out living my best life – I have to make a conscious effort every single day to live the best life that I can,” she explained.

With the star particularly conscious of the fact that you need to help yourself to help others, she notes that she’s not feeling “good” but is rallying on for the sake of herself and her family.

“I do that for myself, I do that for our two children and Bruce who would not want me to live any other way,” she said.

In her caption, Heming expanded on the importance of taking time out to look for something beautiful amid a hardship.

“This is a care partner PSA,” she began her caption. “My message is simple. When we are not looking after ourselves, we are no good to the people we love who we want to show up for and take care of.”

“I don’t have this down to a fine-science either, but I try,” she continued. “It’s an affirmation I use daily so it’s kept in the forefront of my mind.

“Your pictures, words of support and love for me and my family were felt. Honestly, thank you, it helps. I ask that you’ll consider to keep looking for that one beautiful thing or moment in your day.

“And I hope you can take me seriously in my dopey hat,” Heming concluded, bringing some light to the situation.

Bruce Willis retired from acting in March 2022 and was diagnosed with “cruel” frontotemporal dementia in February.

Since his diagnosis, Heming has become an avid advocate for dementia awareness and has been candid about their family experience online.

Earlier this year the advocate opened up about the struggles of being a carer and loved one of the person going through dementia.

“I have my moments it just depends so hanging in there, doing the best that I can, turning my pain into purpose is the vibe that I’m leading with,” Heming said on Instagram.

“I’m trying to lift everyone up I think community is everything and I didn’t have that for a while,” she added. “There’s so much love and support and I find so much strength through it.”
