Emily Blunt taking a year off acting to spend more time with children: ‘I just need to be there’

With her highly-anticipated next film Oppenheimer days away from hitting cinemas, Emily Blunt has announced we may not see her again for a while.

In an interview on the Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast, Blunt, 40, has revealed she wants to take a year off from acting so she’ll have more time to spend with her children.

The star shares two daughters with fellow actor John Krasinski – Hazel, nine, and Violet, seven – and she’s is concerned she’s already missed too many moments.

“This year, I’m not working. I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is nine, so we’re in the last year of single digits,” Blunt said.

“And I just feel [like] there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little, and it’s, ‘Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?'”

The Devil Wears Prada star also spoke to her struggle in balancing parenting and working on her career.

“I never feel I’m doing it right,” she admitted.

“And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch, and I just felt that in my bones.”

The guilt often associated with busy mothers was also brought up in conversation, Blunt admitting she struggled with the feeling.

“I’m very prone to guilt, I think all mothers are,” she shared.

“You’re just prone to feeling bad for, God forbid, wanting something outside of being a mother.”

The podcast interview comes two days after Blunt’s 13th wedding anniversary, and a week before the release of her latest film, Oppenheimer

The movie sees the actress star alongside A-listers such as Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, and Matt Damon.
