‘Embarrassed to be your father’: Sylvester Stallone’s confession to daughters

Actor Sylvester Stallone has dug deep to recall a time where he felt “embarrassed” to be a father.

Being interviewed by his daughters Sophia, 27 and Sistine, 25, for their podcast Unwaxed, the actor shared a period of his life where he felt a lull in his acting career.

“I was embarrassed to be your father,” he recalled of the early 2000s when work began to slow down for him.

“I felt so worthless. You didn’t even really know what I did for a living,” he shared with his daughters. He said they probably wondered why he “[wandered] around looking depressed.”

His biggest role at the time was as the Toy Maker in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003), which his daughter Sophia playfully pointed out.

“When the good times go away, that’s when you find out your family is so important,” he said on a solemn note.

“The ship sailed on me, it was pretty bad. And I realised that people you thought were your friends are not your friends.

“I thought I was definitely done. The phone wasn’t ringing.”

Soon after this, he decided to reboot the franchise that made him famous with Rocky VI being released, 16 years after the commercial failure of Rocky V.

He also revived his other successful film franchise, Rambo, with it’s fourth installment in 200, ensuring he was catapulted back into the spotlight.

Most recently, he featured in a Netflix documentary about his career, titled Sly. Additionally, he and his family – including his three daughters Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet, 21 with his third wife Jennifer Flavin – have appeared in reality television series The Family Stallone since May 2023.
