Ellen DeGeneres set for TV comeback one year after ending daytime talk show

Ellen DeGeneres is set to make her big TV return, one year after wrapping up her self-titled daytime talk show.

The comedian, 65, is taking part in a documentary called Saving the Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure, which will air on the Discovery Channel on September 23.

For the special, DeGeneres travelled with her Australian wife Portia de Rossi, 50, to Rwanda to support the conservation efforts.

In the trailer for the two-hour documentary, DeGeneres can be seen in a forest visiting some gorillas with fellow conservationists.

In another cheeky moment, DeGeneres makes some funny noises as she attempts to learn how to speak like a gorilla.

“They call me one take Ellen,” she joked after making the noises.

On a more serious note, she added: “Nothing keeps you more present than sitting with gorillas.”

She recently celebrated the opening of The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, an environmental organisation in Rwanda.

In May last year, The Ellen DeGeneres Show officially came to an end after 19 years.

Friends star Jennifer Aniston was a guest on the finale after being the very first guest on the show two decades ago.

“If I’ve done anything in the past 19 years, I hope I’ve inspired you to be yourself. Your true, authentic self. And if someone is brave enough to tell you who they are, be brave enough to support them, even if you don’t understand,” she said in her closing speech.

“They’re showing you who they are and that is the biggest gift anybody can ever give you. And by opening your heart and your mind, you’re gonna be that much more compassionate. And compassion is what makes the world a better place.”

She added: “Thank you so much for being on this journey with me. I feel the love and I send it back to you. Bye.”

DeGeneres was forced to previously address toxic workplace allegations on her show.
