EE unveils major change to TV service with a ‘UK first’ for Apple fans in fight to win over Sky and Virgin customers

EE has launched a brand new TV service that’s sure to catch the attention of iPhone and Apple fans.

The company’s revamped EE TV offering includes a customised Apple TV 4K experience which is a first in the UK.

BT-owned EE has worked with the Californian tech giant to build a bespoke app for Apple TV that provides viewers with access to all their live channels with a special Apple TV remote exclusive to EE.

The interface lets you seamlessly hop between your other streaming services like Netflix.

Its new flagship kit, the EE TV Box Pro, also connects to live channels via Wi-Fi instead of traditional aerial.

Users can record up to 600 hours of programmes that are stored on their box’s hard-drive, unlike Sky and Virgin Media’s Wi-Fi alternatives.

There’s also an EE TV Box Mini, with the offer to take out a multi-room option at no extra charge.

The big move comes as BT further morphs into making EE the main consumer-facing brand.

Existing BT TV devices have been updated with new EE branding and refreshed interface overnight to reflect the changes.

“This move shows how telcos can expand further into the home and provide a gateway for consumers to access all their premium TV, film and sport content in one place,” said expert Paolo Pescatore from PP Foresight.

“A focus on choice and flexibility helps meet the needs of the price-conscious consumer, while at the same time it brings a new live TV experience to Apple TV 4K.”

However, you need to be an EE Broadband customer to access the service.

And to fit in with today’s viewing habits, EE TV’s packages are flexible across a 24 month period, so you can upgrade and downgrade the channels you have access to every month.

All packages include free-to-air channels as standard.

The cheapest starts at £18 per month for the Sport package, which includes all four TNT Sports channels, Discovery+ Premium, and Eurosport 1 and 2.

Big Sport, at £43 per month, adds Sky Sports channels as well.

For those more into entertainment, a £20 monthly subscription gets you Sky Atlantic, Sky Max and more with NOW Entertainment, as well as a Netflix Basic plan, Discovery+ Basic and Discovery Channel.

The £30 Big Entertainment package includes the same as above but with Sky Cinema thrown in too.

And for everything, it’ll cost £76 per month.
