However, manager Erik ten Hag preferred to introduce Sergio Reguilon in the 73rd minute to replace Rasmus Hojlund, which drew a chorus of boos from the home fans.

And when Sky Sports cameras panned to the bench, Antony could be seen shaking his head.

On social media, football fans were stunned by his reaction.

One wrote: “Antony can’t believe his eyes.”

A second commented: “Antony must be very bad to still be on the bench. Almost 100m to be 4th choice?”

A third posted: “Take eriksen off and put Antony..what is wrong with this guy.”

While a fourth agreed: “I’m shaking my head aswell Antony.”

Antony would eventually come off the bench in the 86th minute for Christian Eriksen.

But his misery would be compounded just a few minutes later when he was booked for a petulant kick at Jeremy Doku.

The winger then proceeded to square up to the Belgium international, in an embarrassing moment he will want to forget.

Man City were too good for Manchester United in the derby on Super Sunday.

The Red Devils could hardly lay a glove on the Champions League winners, who bossed the game from start to finish.

City took the lead through an Erling Haaland penalty after 26 minutes, after Hojlund held back Rodri in the area.

They doubled their lead on 49 minutes, when the Norwegian hotshot headed home from close range.

Phil Foden put gloss on the win ten minutes from the end to compound Erik ten Hag’s misery.
