However, the so-called drain holes are the real deal.
Water can get past window seals and inside the doors when it rains or when you wash your car, and the water is supposed to exit through drain holes at the bottom.
But those holes at the bottom of your doors can get clogged up over time due to dirt or gravel and debris from the road.
Not clearing them means you could find that, over time, it leads to an increased chance of rust and possible electrical problems with any components located in the door panel.
If you’re unlucky it could cost you a fair bit to repair.
Most drain holes can be found at the bottom of doors although they can also be found in other locations.
According to the automotive site Cars.com, many vehicles will have drain panels in the rocker panels and rear quarter panels, both of which are located near the doors.
Vehicles can also have drain holes situated beneath the windshield and near the boot to keep water from collecting in these areas.
To see if you might have a blockage, run a hose over certain parts of your car.
When you spray the windshield, boot, and doors check to see if the water is draining properly.
If it is collecting or draining slowly, you probably have a blockage.
The high pressure sprays of a car wash, or even a regular garden hose, may be enough to blast the debris out of the drain holes.
Although if you are having a problem you can always ask for the drain holes to be cleared when you take your car in for a service.
