The Ford Escape is among three cars getting the chop as the car company invests in battery-powered models.

Manufacturers had just launched the 2023 model – which is still available for car enthusiasts.

The vehicle boasts a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and a plug-in version offering a 37-mile electric-only range.

The £28,755 was also upgraded from previous models with new LED headlights, an optional 19-inch wheels and a 13.2-inch screen that supports wireless Apple Car Play.

However, bosses confirmed the Escape will be the last generation to hit markets.

A Ford spokesperson said: “The Ford Escape is and will continue to be an important part of our lineup.

“The new 2023 Escape went on sale earlier this year, introducing a new ST-Line trim, as well as new hybrid and plug-in hybrid trims, and we’re pleased with its sales.”

The Escape debuted in 2001 model year and the next generations arrived in 2008, 2013 and 2020.

The model has shown to be popular among drivers – with 64,839 examples delivered by 2023.

But the fourth and current generation of the Escape will be the last.

The Ford Edge and the Transit Connect are also living on borrowed time.

The Edge is set to go away by 2024 from American markets to make way for new EV models.

Although the Transit Connect will remain in some European showrooms, Ford confirmed that production will close down at the end of this year.

A spokesperson for Ford told The Drive: “In combination with our efforts to reduce global manufacturing cost and complexity, alongside decreased demand for the compact van segment.

“Ford Motor Company has made the decision to end importing Transit Connect cargo and passenger vans at the conclusion of this model year.”

It comes as the UK’s fastest-selling used car for this month has been revealed as a model that was discontinued three years ago.

Customers are rushing to buy the well-known hybrid on the resale market well after it was pulled from the manufacturer’s lineup.

Figures from eBay Motors Group show that the Toyota Prius+ was hot property among second-hand buyers over the last 30 days.
