With snow warnings in place across the country, many drivers will have to spend some time cleaning their windscreens in the morning.
For this, motor owners need to know how to clean their windscreen properly or they could face a staggering fine.
People driving with a dirty or muddy windscreen could be slapped with a £1,000 fine.
Road users who break this Highway Code driving law will also be liable for three penalty points on a driving licence and a discretionary ban.
Luckily, a motorist has revealed an easy way to defrost your car with a common household item.
All you need is a dash of methylated spirits – which will only cost you 5p if you buy a £5 bottle from your local supermarket.
The content creator, also known as @neonretrofurniture, posted a TikTok video explaining how to use it.
Steve said: “Do you want to know the best thing to clean your frozen windscreen with? Clear the ice off your car in seconds with this.”
In the video, the car owner shows his windscreen completely frozen.
He then proceeds to splash the mix on the iced windshield – which then appears to instantly melt on the video.
When he jumps back into his vehicle and puts the windscreen wipers on to clean all the extra liquid.
In the clip he said: “Sorted! Lovely job.”
The video has already amassed thousands of views and likes from fellow money-saving motorists.
But many flocked to the comment section to warn against using the product as it can damage your car.
One user said: “Probably not the best for paint work or the environment old boy! stick to lukewarm water maybe.”
Another added: “Yeah just that your car is covered in flammable liquid.”
A third penned: “You’ve just ruined your wipers it will rot rubber.”
But there are other ways to get rid of the annoying ice effectively.
A common household item can help them de-ice a frozen windscreen – saving time on frosty mornings.
According to LeaseCar.uk, a mixture of rubbing alcohol mixed with washing-up liquid can help thin out a thick layer of ice.
This comes after one motorist was mind-blown after discovering a secret flap on their car which doubles up as an ice scraper.
The woman, who often takes to TikTok to share tips and tricks, questioned: “Why has nobody told me this before?”
Elsewhere, a hidden button could save your life if your car’s brakes fail – as an expert points out the feature to fellow motorists.
