Manager Edin Terzić must also find replacements for midfield duo Jude Bellingham and Mahmoud Dahoud.
Bellingham has moved to Real Madrid, while Dahoud left on a free transfer for Brighton.
According to the German outlet Bild, United prospect Hannibal Meijbri, 20, is one target for Dortmund.
The midfielder has barely featured for the Red Devils since his arrival from Monaco’s youth academy in 2019.
Last season, however, he impressed on loan at Birmingham City and even scored a memorable free kick against West Brom.
The report claims that Dortmund could be set to off United £13million to sign the midfielder.
The other player the club is believed to be targeting is winger Anthony Elanga.
The Sweden international, 21, struggled for game time last season as he found himself on the squad’s fringes under manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch manager, however, is believed to be keen on using Elanga as part of a deal that would see West Ham star Declan Rice move to Old Trafford.
But Rice appears to be closing in on a move to Arsenal, meaning an offer from Dortmund could appeal to Ten Hag as he looks to move the winger on.
Any funds brought into the Red Devils through player sales would be helpful as the club is keen on signing a new star striker.
The club’s top target is Tottenham’s Harry Kane, although Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has also been touted as a target.
