Donald Trump to put belt on Colby Covington at UFC 296 if he beats Leon Edwards as ex-President to attend Las Vegas show

COLBY COVINGTON has big plans for Donald Trump if he has his hand raised this weekend.

The former interim welterweight champion will bid to claim the undisputed title at the third time of asking on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 296 in Las Vegas.

Standing between Covington and his dream of winning UFC gold will be Brit champ Leon Edwards, who has won 11 of his last 12 octagon outings.

The proud American will have the full and unwavering support of President Trump, who will be octagon-side on fight night as he was for UFC 295 last month, for his date with destiny.

And Covington plans to have Forty-five hop in the cage with him and wrap the belt around his waist instead of Dana White after ending Edwards’ reign as 170lbs king.

In an exclusive chat with The US Sun, Covington: “That’s exactly right [that I plan to have Donald Trump wrap the belt around me]

“I love Dana and he’s the greatest promoter in the history of any sport. He’s the greatest commission.

“The guy has been a mastermind with what he’s been able to do with this sport.

“But I’m gonna politely and respectfully ask Dana to step aside and let my favourite person and human alive right now, 45, Mr Donald Trump put that belt around my waist.”

The feeling of having UFC gold wrapped around his waist is something Covington wants Trump himself to experience.

He said: “And then I’m gonna put that belt right back around Donald’s waist. Because he is the champion of our people.

“He is America’s true champion and he’s the greatest President of all time in America.”

Covington, 35, believes the unwavering support the Trump family have given him in recent years is a testament to his star power, something he believes Edwards lacks.

The Californian said: “He’s the B-side next weekend, he’s not the A-side next.

“If he was the A-side, he would be bringing out the Royal Family, he’d be bringing out Mary f***ing Poppins, he’d be bringing out Paddington Bear.

“But nobody wants to come and watch Leon because nobody cares about Leon.

“I’m bringing out the most famous person alive on Planet Earth, I’m bringing out Donald Trump front row.

“I can’t wait to put on a show and put the belt around Donald Trump’s waist next weekend.”

Despite having already failed twice at winning UFC gold, Covington is already looking to the future and his first outing as the new king of the welterweights.

And a maiden title defence in England in a rematch against Edwards – who he could have fought hand Kamaru Usman been unable to make his March trilogy fight with the Brummie – is chief among his plans.

He said: “Those fans in the UK are the most electrifying I’ve ever seen in this sport’s history.

“So I’m gonna do the UK fans a favour.

“And I’m gonna come and defend this title in the UK after I beat Leon next weekend, December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.”
