Dakota Johnson Pulls Off a Triple Denim Look With a Corset Top

Dakota Johnson just took denim-on-denim to new heights. On Jan. 19, the “Persuasion” actor arrived at the opening night of the Sundance Film Festival to honor Luca Guadagnino with the international icon award, dressed in a full dark-wash outfit. Her Magda Butrym look featured a structured bustier with a plunging neckline, a double-breasted denim trench coat, and high-waisted pants with a wide-leg silhouette.

To accessorize her Americana-inspired pieces, Johnson kept it classic with a simple gold and diamond pendant by Jessica McCormack, as well as black heels, her pointed toes peeking out beneath the hem of her pants. Upon closer inspection, the gold in her jewelry actually matched the rose-shaped buttons on her coat.

Denim-on-denim is a trend typically associated with the ’80s, although it carried all the way into the 1990s and early 2000s, with pop culture icons like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake contributing to its polarizing reputation. However, the full denim look was originally considered somewhat punk-rock, championed by legends like Debbie Harry, Elvis, and even Bing Crosby, whose Canadian tuxedo famously got him denied entry from a hotel in the ’50s.

Now, double (or in this case, triple) denim seems to be in its redemption era, with Megan Fox recently wearing a jean corset, and “Emily in Paris” star Camille Razat making an entirely denim outfit look très chic. Look ahead for how Johnson styled her version.
